Went fishing in between Lynchburg and Big Island and got multiple hits on my buzzbait by some BIG muskie. There are areas where large boulders are submerged in pools of water just below flowing water. These muskie were holding up next to the huge rocks. I was very unprepared for a few of the strikes seeing how I was focused on smallmouth action. I quickly put on a steel leader and proceeded to get some monster strikes but those muskie are smart and would never get hooked , even with a trailer hook on my white buzzer?

28th 6:08 PM Just got back from Maidens landing. What shoulda been a fine day was slow fishing...Only two in the boat. One LM one SM, both decent sized at 15-16" or so. Partner was skunked. Waters still a little high and stained. I'd like to see a couple weeks with no rain in the James's water shed to see if that brings the smallie bite back. Sure has been slow this year, last year too for that matter. Anyone else doing any smallmouth fishing? There was a great thread on riversmallies.com about the James and the lack of smallmouth being caught, not just in this part of the state either. Used to be a 30-50 fish day was not uncommon. But 2? Can't wait for it to come down some...Heading to The Cheat river in WV for the forth...Wife's grandparents have a little cabin and we'll be bringing the kayaks. Hopefully more fish up there! See you on the water... -D |
