The river is finally clear. I had more than three feet visibilty and the fish responded. We caught 27 smallmouth, 3 largemouth, and a 7lb catfish while fishing for smallmouth, I thought I had on a big carp at first. We have caught a lot of catfish while fishing for smallmouth this year. We have been catching at least 1 or 2 every trip, but none that big. We also caught 5 crappie. I had never caught crappie before in the river. The fish seemed to be all over with no one spot being better than antoher. It was important to have some deep water in the area because the water was so clear. The bite really slowed down after 11:30. We really just floated the river because the fish seemed to be spread out. We were fishing grubs and some small jerkbaits. This was a good day considering we have been only catching between 4 and 10 fish a day.

Put in at Leesylvania around 0700. High tide was approx 0600 as measured in Mattawoman http://www.saltwatertides.com/dynamic.dir/potomacsites.html.

Fished several spots including Arkindale without a bite. At about 1000, went to one of my spots in Mattawoman and caught a 3# on some pilings. Stayed on the same shoreline and ended the day with 13 fish (best 5 about 12 pounds)...no kicker fish.

Every fish was caught on a 7" curltail handpour in either dark watermelon or a light green pumpkin.
