The cold front that came in the night before was brutal! 30 temperature drop on Friday evening. Saturday morning was freezing. Upon arriving at hunting run for the first time we found 30 boats already on the water. That's alot for a 420 acre lake. To make matters worse, a steady 15 mph wind was blowing from the North w/41 degree temp at 11:00am. Definitely shut down the bass.
After reading Wayne's comments about the lake I figured it was worth evaluting the lake. My buddy caught a 5.1 citation pickerel on a husky jerk and I caught two bass, 3.10 and 6.2 both on jig/pig. Both bass were caught within 10 min of each other around 3:30PM. Both fish came off of wood. Big fish came off of large submerged tree sticking up out of water. Wind relented somewhat in afternoon and the sun came out to warm things up.

About that time of year that I hit the ponds after work every day. If its as good as last year I will be happy. Im finding bass still scattered. They are fattening up and some are moving up towards shallow water at times. Noticed a lot of fresh crawdad mud huts. I would love to catch a few of those for bait.

cloudy, windy, rain showers. Opposite of Richmond today.
clear, 2'vis, kind of has that Chick lake water color to it.
ramp to the rip rap then half way down to the dam. Fished back in the coves to get out of the wind. Wind and electric motors dont mix.
7 LMB, all small.
Wacky, texas and carolina rigged worms. Chatterbait, DT-6 crankbaits.
Only 1 or 2 were shallow. Found most fish around 5-6' in the middle of coves.
Went today with my buddy Chris. The guy with the electric Triton was out there along with a half dozen other boats. I tried a wacky worm but quickly switched back to a crank cause thats what worked for me before there. I was just careful to use my pliers this time around. When I was up 4 fish to none to Chris, I convinced him to use a crankbait to. He caught one on the second cast w it. Caught a couple more and we had 7. After I got home I went down to the pond at sunset. I caught 1 catfish and 1 bass that was just over 5 lbs on a 6" Yum Dinger. The pond is warmer than the reservoir and you can really see the difference in the fishes pre-spawn staging patterns and behavior. The pond bass was fat and shallow.

Weedless wacky rigged the finesse worm. Tx. rigged and Carolina rigged the lizzard. The big fish hit the Chatterbait, one about 2 pounds hit the spinnerbait and the rest were caught using the finesse worm. All fish were caught on wind blown shorelines/coves where the warmest water was.
I caught the 6-7 near the blue paddle boat this afternoon where the water was 57 degrees. Most of the lake was 51-52 but warmer on downwind banks in the afternoon. The wind was blowing towards the dam. The temp at the ramp was 51 this morning and this afternoon was still 51 degrees. Only three other boats on the lake today. There are 25 jon boats available for rent.

started with a texas rigged lizard, then a Bomber model A 4-6' baby bass color.
Started fishing a tx rigged lizard on the recommendation of the resident "bass pro".(My neighbor) He claims to have caught a 6 and an 8 on that lately. I had no luck so in an effort to overcome my newfound fear of treble hooks I tied on a Bomber model A crank. I caught a fish on the first, second and several other casts. All fish actually hit up close to shore.

Went to Waller Mill for the first time Tuesday. Nice place, and the water was really clear there. We tried fishing all over and only managed 6 fish, biggest was 2-12. We just couldnt figure them out. We caught all 6 between 12 and 2pm.
Boat ramp there is a little tricky getting a bass boat on and off the trailer. If the water was a foot higher it would be no problem, but as it is you gotta almost put the truck in the water up to the bumper to get the boat off/on.

I took a while to develop a pattern as the water temp was 6 degrees cooler than last week. The sunshine pattern wasn't working so I tried the downwind pattern and that worked as the water was warmer in downwind coves and cuts. I slow rolled the spinnerbait on a long cast to the back of the coves and followed that up with the Trap and wacky rigged finesse worm. The most productive period was between 4PM and 6:30PM.
Several bass boats on the lake today, most left early-too much wind, I guess The last two bass I caught came on back to back casts. I had caught the 5-4 and was moving the boat away from shore to set the camera, weigh the fish and take a picture. I saw a swirl near where that bass came from so I put it on a stringer for the set-up, made a cast and caught a 3-10. Got a pictue of both of them together.

Its getting to be that time of year so with day light savings time I had to hit the pond after work. I caught a few keeper size bass. Probably missed more than I landed. Fish would tick the bait but not commit to it. That and the fact that I am not used to the "Banko" force hookset needed for jig fishing.

Weedless wacky rigged the finesse worm. Used a Zoom split tail trailer on the Chatterbait. After looking for fish on the bottom for a Silver Buddy presentation and not seeing any, I tried shallow near steep drops and found some NICE ones. The productive areas were banks with direct sunshine.
I didn't catch the numbers I was anticipating but the quality made up for it. I bought 100 finesse worms yesterday just in case. The first bass I caught weighed 6-8 and about 5 minutes later I caught a 6-10 on the same pattern that held up all day. The largest caught was 7-1 with one over 5# and three over 4#. All the large ones except one hit the Chatterbait and that one of 4-11 was with the weedless wacky rigged finesse worm. The water level is about 4' higher than it was a couple of weeks ago so launching was not a problem, just the absense of a dock makes recovery when fishing alone a challenge-take some at least knee high rubber boots if you go. There are jon boats and electic motors for rent.
