Went out after work for a couple hours, caught four, all around wood on plastic worms. Noticed there are numbered markers on the Occoquan now, anyone know what they signify?

For me fishing on the Occoquan is still slow this year, but I found some good fish by covering a lot of water and sticking to a Bass Stalker jig.
The fish we all tight to wood in shallow water adjacent to steep drop-offs. Biggest for the day was about 5 lbs. Next in line was one around 3.

26th 6:19 PM My wife and I have been fishing Ni River Reservoir the last few weeks. Can't say we've caught a lot of bass, and we haven't caught anything any size, but the pickerel have helped to make up for it. We've caught a bunch of them toothy things, including two length citations, (over 24 inches) and several more in the 20" + class. They really seem to like chrome rattle traps off points with grass that drops off into water at least 10 feet deep. They'll eat a Carolina Rig too, but will cut you off a lot. My wife had one 25" one about a month ago that weighed 4.5 lbs, and I had one last week that was only 24, but was a deeper, heavier fish than hers. We estimated it 4 3/4 to 5 before releasing it. Had another one cut my line with his teeth the same day. Gotta pick up a couple of wire leaders for the rattletrap rods. |

I took an solo overnite canoe trip starting at Eley's Ford and ended at Clore Brothers Outfitters. Hit the water around 10am Saturday. Camped at the junction of the Rap & Rapp. 36 smallies from 1/2-1 1/2 lbs with one at 2 lbs. 12 Bream 1 flathead 1 SHAD above the junction! This is great news for fishing since the concerns over the impact of the dam being blown in town. The shad, herring and STRIPERS! are already heading up river. The smallies should feed better and a striper from a canoe could be pretty fun! I had luck with the LPT crawfish, 4" powerbait worm, Rebel tiny craw, Rapala J-7, Yamamoto 3" grub, plastic mad toms, and live jumbo minnows. Stop reading, pack your gear and visit www.clorebros.com I've used them many times without regret!

Went to Gaston this afternoon, only caught four fish, three keepers. The biggest was only 15 inches. Try jigs, senkos, crankbaits, and flukes. They hit all of those today. I had one that felt like a really nice fish pick a jig up and carry it, but I screwed it up on the hookset, I'm still learning how to set the hook on these jig fish. I also managed a few on a jigs and crankbaits yesterday in the middle of the absolute worst rain I have ever seen on Gaston. They really hit during the downpour. The pike got to hitting good after the storm, not what I was after, but they put up a pretty good fight

Dad and I took out the old V-Hull and trusty trolling motor to Lake Lunga on Quantico Marine Base. His 2nd time, my 1st. Water was stained, but not too bad. I've heard nothing but good things about Lunga, but I must say I was disappointed yesterday. GOT COMPLETELY SKUNKED!!!! That hardly ever happens when I'm in a boat. I missed one on a pumkinseed Senko Tube lookin thing (forget what their called) in a pile of submerged sticks near a beaver dam, and had one other hit retrieving a watermellon worm, but that was it. The first hit was quality though. And that was all she wrote. Got there around 9am fished to about 2pm. Should have gotten there earlier I guess. talked to one guy who said he caught one in the grass about 6lbs (he was by himself, and a little drunk), but I think he was blowin sunshine... Tried, spinners, all kinds of different cranks (1foot to 20 foot divers), grubs, a couple Jigs, and about 10 different types and colors of Senkos (my usual producers when it's slow), Texas rigged and Wacky rigged. Nice lake though. Seems pretty shallow in most areas, except up by the dam. Would love any information, tips, suggestions on this lake, cause I want my vengence upon it... Dad hasn't caught anything over 2lbs in about 5 years...Tryin to change that. Talked to a couple other guys who said they fished it SAT and Sunday, and had no luck either. Should have got some shiners and Walleye fished I guess. The High Pressure and cold front comin through musta greatly contributed to the slow bite. Post them tips! Tight lilnes! Better luck next time...I hope...

Got out on the lake much later than hoped for. Fished from about 1:30pm to 3:30pm. Fished a few grass points right above the dam. By the time we got out there, the jet skis and skiers were beatin up the water. Caught one nice fish almost 20" and a little over 4 lbs. Hit a shad colored crankbait in about 8' of water.

Was out at MY lake from about 5:30pm to about 7:30 shore fishin after work. Caught 1 about 1.5lbs on a watermellon cut-tail Senko in about a foot of water. Water was murky and bite was slow.
Saw something that absolutely disgusted me (in regards to careless fisherman). A baby Canadian Goose still in his down coat was floppin around on the lake shore about a foot from the water. Thought he was just bein goofy, until I noticed his folks hissing and honking up a storm. put down my pole to investigate...I was too late. The poor youngster had been eating grass and had inadvertently gotten someone's carelessly discarded fishing line (looked like Berkely Iron Silk about 10lb test) hooked around that weird mouth organ behind the tongue. I forge what it's called, but it blocks particles from getting down their throat when they drink, and is kind of spiky to help grind up plants a little. It was one strand of line only, out of a nasty nest of line wrapped aroudn a stick, and was looped around that mouth organ. In his struggling, he was pulling that organ up which was completely blocking his airway. Got bit by dad goose, but didn't care. I left my knife in my tackle bag, so I had to bite the line to break it which was hard as hell with the little guy thrashing around. Cut it and pulled the line out but to no avail. I held him while he took his last breath. I cleared out his throat with a stick and tried to pump his lungs, but to no avail. I hunt, as well as fish, so I'm no softie, but this bothered me so much I wasn't even in the mood to fish anymore!!! (and that's saying something).
SO PLEASE PICK UP YOUR DAMN FISHING LINE WHEN YOU CUT OUT A TANGLE!!!!! I've been guilty of it too, but not in a long time, and DEFINATELY never again. Hell, I usually will pick up other people's line if I can. Besides, who wants to be trippin over someone's old tangle of line or garbage when you're out tryin to get away from it all and catch the state record bass at the same time anyway?? Respect Nature. Make a difference no matter how small. Be like the guy that goes down to Occoquan Reservoir (usually see him near Bull Run Marina) in his John boat and fishes and picks up trash out of the water at the same time. Thank you sir. Anyway, I digress. I'm still all fired up about that damn goose. So good luck! Keep em wet!

Fished Saturday night from 10 until 2:30. Had a pretty bad night. Got the boat in the water and the wind showed up and was blowing pretty hard. Fished mainly in the Penhook area, because of the wind. Had zero luck. I used all the colors of worms I had in the box, texas rigged, drop shot rigged, split shot rig, and any other rig I could try. Found all kinds of shad flipping and going nuts, but could gather no bites from a bass or any other species of fish. I have a club tournament this weekend, and anyone who can steer me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Tight Lines!

Fished monday for about 30 minutes, and in that time I had about 6 LM in the boat most were dinks, with 2 of them around 2 pounds. They were all in shallow water and everything I threw at them they ate. I am sure if I would have stayed fishing I would have had a great day. I fish lake wylie now and never have much luck, but when I head to claytor I always catch fish, just the average size on claytor for me is about 1 pound and on wylie it is 3 pounds

Started out around 1 p.m. Caught 5 bass fishing the bank. Only luck I had was if your facing the lake from the office, go to the right and across the lake. I only used a red shad u-tail rubber worm. One of the fish I didn't get it broke my line..lol, everything else was around 10-12 inches.
