Had to go into the cover to get a bite. Pitching the soft plastic into wood was the only success I had. Got one nice pike ( about 3 lbs) only 1 small bass another pike and one crappie on a spinner

Comments

It was very windy. I did see where some fish were beginning to fan off spots to spawn. Finally saw some baitfish flipping.

Place

Lake Chesdin

Weather

sunny/light breeze

Water

muddy and maybe 52 degrees

Locations

from public boat ramp to maybe middle of lake

Fish

2 large mouth bass

Lures

spinnerbait and chatterbait

Depth

3-5 foot range

Method

Tried some crankbaits/rattles/jerkbaits for an hour or two without any action. Switched to a chatterbait in an area that had little steepness of bank and a few weeds. Got that 4lber which woke me up. After that tried chatterbait a little more and switched to a spinnerbait on a small laydown and got a 3.5 lber off of that spot.

Comments

Was only my 2nd trip out this year, first was a skunking on the James. Glad to get some decent fish to start the year off. Water seemed very muddy there. Fished Chesdin maybe 3 times last year and never did that well but promised myself I would try it in the spring of 2008
