The fish were more scattered than the last few times I fished there. The height of the vegetation uplake seems less than last week, maybe the grass carp are doing their thing.

I tested the "theory" that insect repellant will deter bass from taking a lure due to a thread started on another website about carefully washing your hands to eliminate contamination after applying sunscreen-this was part two of the test. First stop: after finding a familar bunch of bass, I caught the first one 3-1 and then sprayed the Fluke with OFF containing 15% DEET. Two casts later I caught a 3-4, next cast at 2-10. Had to replace the Fluke, put a new one on, sprayed with OFF again, next cast a 3-0. Switched among the Fluke, swimbait, and Trick worm and also tried several "fish attractants" and some with no added scent. I caught 19 bass at that location in 2 hours. I saw no negative effect using the insect repellant as opposed to the fish scents. Then I moved to another area and caught one on the first cast with a 10" worm and some more with the Fluke and Trick worm. About 3:00 I went by the first stop and a boat was there, I went on to another place about 1/4 mile away and caught a few more while watching the boat. I saw them leave about 4:00 and I waited until 4:30 to return and caught two more in the 3# class, I decided to quit at 5:00 and at less than 2 minutes 'til, I made the last cast and caught the 7-4, weighed it, took a picture, released it, and went home after talking with a couple of guys at the ramp that saw me catch the 7-4. I showed them the weighted Fluke and weedless wacky rig that accounted for the most caught. Conclusion of the test: insect repellant containing DEET does not repel bass. I did the same type of test (part one)the day before at Hunting Run using Coppertone SPF 50 with no negative results. In that case, the sunscreen seem to be a better attractant or at least comparable to so-called "attractants". My fishing partner and I discussed maybe repackaging the Coppertone and selling it as a "new fish attractant" with a "secret" ingredient, LOL. The tests were my version of the cable TV show "Mythbusters", and I certainly busted the long held "theory/myth" that hands or baits contaminated with sunscreen and insect repellant will deter bass for taking lures.
