Briery Creek
moist
normal briery clear
midlake shallaw grass
bass
senko, shallow crank, finese worm and brushhog t-rigged
1-15
Caught all fish in less than 5 feet on all above mentioned lures. Most bites were on t rigged worm and senko.
Had some poor weather but have to go when you can. Started slow cause I was trying to fish a little deeper than the fish seemed to be. Once I got a few shallow bites it was alot easier. Ended up catching 28 all in less than 5 feet but the size wasnt what I would have liked to have seen.

Windy!!!! but beautiful!
60 degrees...clear and choppy
launched at 701 and fished up lake
Largemouth
live shiners and a 4" Neon Husky jerk....
3-6 ft
shiners fished at about 3 feet....on small floats.
Was only my third time on Briery ever...went twice last year and caught a few fish....but had always heard about Briery in the spring! Wife and I took the dog...and had to anchor since the wind was blowing so hard. Turns out..it was probably the best thing that could happen! I stayed in one area and caught 18 largemouth....13 of which were over 15" long. I also caught my #1 and #2 largest bass ever....one was a 24 1/4" fish that showed on the scale at just over 7 pounds. Then the next cast caught one that was 21.5"! We took some pictures of the big fella, as he will qualify for a citation by length....should have been a much heavier fish, but seemed like a lot of fish were post spawn...and long and skinny. Was an amazing day....and yes, there were lots of boats out there battling the wind! All fish released unharmed...and even was able to do some good and remove a big weedless hook from one 4 pound fish.

Clear and WINDY
Clear 57-62 degrees
701 ramp area and across lake
Largemouth
3 dozen minnows
Shallow out to 8-10 feet
Took a guy from work to go Crappie fishin'.....Caught more bass than when I normally go bass fishin....The wind was strong and fairly steady. Made small line and floats difficult to fish. NO Crappie, saw lot's of bass on beds. The 701 ramp was full. Talked to a lot of disappointed fellas today....I would guess next week or so for panfish. Water needs to be in 60's for me....Oh well maybe next time. Like they say a bad day of fishin is better than a good day at work.....

Briery Creek
Mostly cloudy 70 degrees
Slight stain at mid-lake dingy uplake- water temp 55-66 degrees, the level is up some since last week.
Up lake shallows
29 bass-no big ones, and 1 pickerel
Zoom Trick and finesse worm, swimbait, chatterbait, spinnerbait
1'-6'
Weedless wacky rigged the worms around shallow stumps
16 trailers in the parking lot when I got there. The water temp was 55 at the 701 ramp in the morning. Up-lake it was 54 but got up to 66 degrees in the late afternoon and the water temp at the ramp was 61.5 when I left. After about 4:00 there were dozens of large bass in real shallow water almost on the surface and in or near dollar pads. They would splash and make large swirls when a lure was going overhead. The water was too dingy to see them before I got too close. I couldn't get any of them to take a lure. I think they had just moved out of the creeks channels and were warming up in the 65-66 water temp. Lots of splashing fish chasing shad in less than 3' depths in the dollar pads on the West side of the Briery Creek channel, not much action near Little Briery Creek. With air temps in the 70's for the next few days it's going to be exceptional catching by the weekend. I'll probably go back Friday. I am going to pick on those Hunting Run bass tomorrow.

Briery Creek
Cold windy rain sunday low 50s - less wind monday overcast mid 50s.
Up from rain - 52-55 degrees
Mid upper - lower lake
20 bass mostly bucks 1 pickerel.
Trap, spinnerbait, jig n craw, deep diving fat free shad
1-35 ft
Saturday caught numbers of bucks on traps and spinnerbaits and jigs. Caught fish shallow, and also saw fish suspended in tops. Two best fish came on Fat free shad on a deep point, and big fish of the day was a 5 plus on a jig at the base of a tree in 30ft just off creekchannel in a deep bay.
After frying my trolling motor sunday afternoon, I was forced to switch tactics and decided to try fishing some live bait monday even though it is not my forte. My buddy and I fished hard all day saturating what we thought were good prespawn holes with jumbo minnows only to miss the three good strikes we had. Left back to Blacksburg monday evening after a long day of slow fishing and NO FISH! All in all good trip -the big fish on saturday and my buddys face when he saw the lake for first time made it worth it. Im thinking we were just about a week early - next week its gonna be on.
