Fished all day. Couldnt find any pattern at all. Fish were gone from places I found them last week. I thought topwater would be good today, but didn't get as much as a sniff. I found scattered fish on the spinnerbait and power worm. Still not finding any fish on midriver jetties. The stripers are there now, even had one hit the side of my boat busting some shad. water was 53-54 at rocketts and around 63 at the deep bottom cut.

We threw the worm & crankbaits at the edge of the lilly pads and the wood cover. The bites came from the lilly pads that dropped sharply to 3' plus and wood cover. We ended up with 40 crappies, 15 bass up to 2.5 lb and only 4 chain.

fished out of osbourne. Bite was good early and late. Caught fish on spinnerbait, lipless cranks and buzzbaits. Would've limited around 15-16 if not for dropped fish. Fish were chunky and hard hitting but not even close to fall footballs. Water was 50-51 up around rocketts, and low 60's in the deep bottom area. Still only finding scattered fish on jetties.

WINDY!
HIGH!
Deep Bottom loop
zero. nada. zilch. zippo.
Went out of Deep Bottom this morning, I knew it was going to be super windy but I had the urge to fish....so I didn't set my expectations really high. My plan was to just "casually" fish today and then fish a little more seriously Sunday morning since the forecast was much better Sunday morning. I went into that "canal" that leads into the inner bay of the deep bottom island....on my 4th cast I had a fish on (4" worm).....it came off after about a 10-15 second fight. I got a look at it, it wasn't huge. After that I had a really hard time getting a bite....had several that felt like crappie/bluegill nipping the tail of my worm though. Around 9am I saw a hunter come out of the island on a jonboat with 2 really nice bucks in the front of his boat. Beyond that, it was a pretty uneventful trip....just couldn't handle the wind. One weird thing was that I launched around 8am and the tide was high....I figured it would be going back out around the time I left at noon....but when I got back to the Deep Bottom ramp, the water was about 2" away from covering the dock. Haven't seen it that high before except when flooded. I guess it's a combination of the winds, left over rain water, and a high tide. Oh, and this morning's (Sunday) got cancelled b/c I left my depth sounder on in the dash over night.....I only have on-board chargers on my trolling batteries. I'm glad I noticed it at home before I left this morning. I hooked up an external charger to it and I only had about a 25% charge on the battery :( Live & Learn I reckon.

Thanks to Wayne P. for the great reports. Fishing was tough after the passing cold front. Fishing got worst as the day went on. Finally got blown off the lake. Nothing biting in the creeks or main lake (too windy?) Caught one on a sheltered point, the remainder in the coves and points near the dam. Some shad activity there. No fish over 2lb. Hope to come back in late March for the spring bite!

Launched out of Rocka hock and worked down river maybe 1 mile or so
1 Largemouth bass 1 small perch
Caught bass on spinnerbait Caught perch on small crankbait, lost small fish on small crankbait too
bass was in 4-5 feet? fished all different depths 1-8 feet
Tried spinnerbait and frog around weeds and pads. Tried crankbait on outside of weeds. Tried senko under docks Around laydowns used spinnerbaits and flipped kreature baits
Caught my biggest VA pig today, was 5 lbs 8 oz. Got it on a laydown with a spinnerbait. Never been to the Chick River, have fished the lake 3 times or so. The dam has stabilized the water in the lake from what they were saying. Could not find any fish in the real shallow weeds and pads, did see baitfish activity shallow. Will have to try the river again some time, definitely in the spring. So many of these Va lakes I have hit in the summer/fall look like they would be great in the spring, gonna have to use a lot of vacation time. I will try to post picture in the picture section.
