Before sun-up I fished the Yellow Magic at the dollar pad edges near the ramp. After sun-up I fished the feeder creek channel edges.
I was the first one there this morning and only two other boats arrived later. A thunder storm was developing nearby, so I left early. It sure was hot and muggy.

There were a LOT of dead and dying shad all over the lake. The bait shop operator said that when they spawned, the water temp was too warm for them to survive.

I tried a new soft floating frog with 5/0 hook and missed a few and caught two on it. Did find a few bass stacked in one location but could not get them to swallow lure. Good day to be out, was hot, high tide when I got there and was going out fast around noon. Joefroggy

Caught over 90 bass in the three days we fished. All smaller fish, the biggest was around 15". First time I had used a grub on a jighead for smallies, but it was the TICKET!! They were all over the grub. I ran out actually, but will never go again without an ample supply of those grubs. Camped and caught catfish on the brim we were able to catch Sat night. Small flat around 8 lbs and a blue around 10 lbs. Awesome trip other than my partner forgetting to take his keys on the river. When we took out at Bent Creek, his keys were 22 miles away in my truck at Galts Mill. THANK YOU to the gentleman that gave us a ride and took an hour out of his day to do so. He would not even accept and $$$$ for his time and troubles.
I have heard a bunch about the smallmouth being in bad shape and showing up with sores and being sickly. Every single smallie we caught was in perfect shape and ferocious!

Whew, it was a tough day. My Fathers Day Gift was a day all to myself on the river just to fish. Also got a new rod/reel and a couple other goodies. The reel is going back to trade for a baitcaster though. I had to come in earlier than I wanted, the heat was getting to me, and my head started pounding.

Deep Bottom & main river below 295

Set the alarm clock for 6am but as luck would have it I woke up even earlier...so I was at Deep Bottom around sun-rise. Fog on the water and cool enough to have to wear a jacket... Man it looked PERFECT.... Sadly the fish didn't cooperate. I have zero confidence in a buzzbait but I have heard so many bass fisherman talking about using them on the main river that I had to give it another shot. I got blanked, as I assumed. I could not BELIEVE that I couldn't get a bite on the places I fished. I even broke out the ol' standby, the white trick worm. I kept waiting and waiting and waiting for a hit but nothing...I fished the fishiest looking places I've seen on the river in a long time...nada! I ran up to the 295 bridge and fished my way back and started getting some hits on the white spinner....but they were all short strikes. I finally hooked into one after it slammed the lure and what do you know, it's a 2lbs catfish. That's the 2nd catfish I've caught on a spinner bait in the river. It's weird how they fight harder on artificial lures than on a bottom rig. I had one follow the lure to the boat and flash away when it saw the surface.....I needed a trailer hook today.

I went to Motts today and rented and electric motor Jon to try out the reservoir. This lake is supposed to be third in the state for catch per effort according to VDGIF. Apparently no one told the fish today. Pretty lake. Very clear water. Only one other boat out. I found bass all over the lake cruising along the shore. Water was so clear you could sight fish. I would see a fish, drop a lure past them then work it in front of them over and over and not one fish even took a second look. Weird. The one guy I saw catch a fish was using live bluegill around the underwater island. At least I got a nice tan.

Fished topwater hard at sunrise with not even a bite. Went to shallow cranks a texas rigged plastics along the pads and up the creeks. Tried steeper banks into deeper water. Found some suspended fish in 12 ft of water and fished with jerkbaits and cranks without a bite. Finally caught one 2 1/2 lber at the mouth of a creek about 10 AM.
Fished one stretch of cypress trees with a shaky head worm. Ended up catching 2 (not one, but two) huge snapping turtles that were released.

Buddy used a ring worm and a fluke. I used a spinner and one of those funny looking 12" buzz baits for the first time.
It was my birthday so of course i wanted to fish after work. Took a buddy with me. We fished two ponds right next to each other. He caught two. One on the ring worm one on the fluke. He lost two all during light. At dusk I caught two on a white/chartruese spinner. When it got dark I tied on that LONG buzz bait for the first time. What a racket that thing makes in the water. I seriously had my doubts about that thing but I caught 2 nice ones that absolutely nailed it hard. I have tried buzz baits before with no luck. These were my first two bass on a buzz bait. Really cool. I stopped and started the buzz like a swimming frog.

Went for an hour before "Cops" was on TV. Was in a hurry so I didnt bother with the stinger hook. Man I was stupid. Lost all my bass but worst thing was I had a big one on. Nice fish. Probably guessing would have been my PB. Fish completely left the water and spit the hook. One of those break your stuff on the bank moments, but I paid too much for it :)

First time there so did not know what to expect. Pretty scenery, would like to be there when more water is there. Lost a nice fish on a spinnerbait half way to boat. Had a real nice blow up on frog in the pads early on but he completely missed it. Was happy to get some action and want to go back when water is better level
