Excellent day considering the way it started....I first went to Harrison Lake and found it closed....then decided to go to Diascund and almost ran out of gas getting there....finally got there and fog was terrible and fish weren't cooperating....so I said screw it, left at 11am and came home for lunch....gassed the boat up and went to Osbornes. I got there just as a very high tide was starting to go out. About an hour and a half into the outgoing tide the fish really started biting....I must have had 100+ strikes, all just "nibbling" at the crappie jig I had. Didn't seem to matter if it was tipped with a minnow or not. First fish of the day was a nice chunk bass followed by a bunch of crappie, couple blue gill, and another smaller bass. Great afternoon.

Started the day out crappie fishing....as I was going from one hole to the next with my trolling motor, I picked up my new crankbait.....and unexpectedly I had a nice fish on...thought it was a striper, it flashed by the boat and was about a 3-4lbs bass...it came off somehow, no clue how since I was using dual trebles...a few casts later I had my first ever crankbait bass! Went back to crappie fishing and caught a nice 3lbs chunk on a 1/32oz crappie jig too. Pretty day, the bass were biting....someone who actually knew what they were doing woulda cleaned up!

Method

I got on the water at 10:45 and fished until 4:30. I caught 12 bass, all but 1 (Husky Jerk) using the wacky worm & 4 crappies, 3 on Husky Jerk & 1 on Shad Rap. 10 of the bass were caught near the back of the lake. I was fishing the worm slow but didn't get but 1 bite. As I was reeling in the worm to make another cast I had a chain attack the worm. After this happened a couple of times I started fishing a hard jerk, jerk, jerk, pause retrieve to fished for chain and I started catching the bass and only got 1 other bite from a chain. Go figure (:

Really just wanted to get out and burn some of that E10 gas out of my boat before it condensated.....I was on the water from about 1:30 to 3:30 so only 2 hours and only about an hour of it was actual fishing....maybe less than that. I rode from Deep Bottom up to about Jimmy Dean's place and then turned around and came back because of all the debris in the water. I had enough gas to actually make it to Richmond and back but I felt like it wasn't a matter of IF I was going to hit a log but WHEN so I cut that idea short. Came back and started fishing on the up-river side of Deep Bottom, the wooded shoreline. I started out "whatever" fishing (ie whatever would bite) on a broken back minnow I just bought...I love the action but quickly switched to a white feather tail crappie jig when I came across a fallen tree in about 13 feet of water. After jigging it for a while I was going to move to the next piece of structure when I made one last cast at the tree....and immediately felt some weight. I thought it was a huge crappie when it flashed in the water but turned out to be a bass, about 1.75lbs or so...nice chunky little thing. It put up a good fight and I actually had it tangled around some trees for a while and thought I was going to lose it because I was fishing with 4lbs test and a micro ultra light rod/reel......luckily it came loose. Nice fish for that rig. Didn't catch much else on that stretch and it was about 45 minutes from dark so I decided to pack it up. Low oil sensor went off 1/2 way back to the ramp which scared the bejeebus out of me even though I was expecting it to go off this trip. I like to get it close to the sensor before mixing new oil in with it. Have it marked on the reservoir when to refill... Anyways, not a bad day for an hour's worth of fishing....had to get out before the rain sets in. Will try again Sunday, looks like decent weather.

14 boats on the lake today. I just had to take advantage of the warm weather since the forecast looks like some cold weather is on the way. I stopped by Briery Creek before going to Sandy to check the water temp. and it was 45 degrees and about 6" lower than the last time I was there.
